In the historic Melrose district in Iowa City, two houses are set to be demolished to set up a large parking lot for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.[ads]The two houses that are set to be demolished are located at 711 Melrose Avenue and 15 Melrose Place.

A couple of days ago, a former of University of Iowa student made waves with the release of a book focusing on and openly supporting gay marriage.Zach Wahls, of Iowa, gained significant internet fame after a video of Wahls speaking before the Iowa House of Representatives went viral, and recently again after appearing on social media site Reddit caused a resurgence of interest in Zach's speech.

After 15 years, Mary Clarke a scout for the St. Louis based modeling agency called Mother Model Management, returns to the Midwest with her agency in search of potential talent to introduce to the world.

As a man who prides himself on his fashion along with his love for comics, nothing pleases me more than Marvel's Millie the Model. Known as Marvel's longest running humor comic, spanning nearly thirty years from the 1940's to the early 1970's, I find it a shame that the title has slipped into near obscurity, overtaken by the company's signature superhero comic series.

This Monday, April 30th, French Canadian comic artist, Guy Delisle, will read from his new book, Jerusalem: Chronicles from the Holy City. Following the style of his previous three books, Shenzhen (2000),  Pyongyang (2004), and Burma Chronicles (2007), Delisle again delivers a travelogue in comics form about his experiences in a foreign land.

When President Obama is scheduled to appear at the University of Iowa this Wednesday, the reception may be mixed once again this year. While the president's speech is bound to draw large crowds, and some local groups plan to rally protesting Obama’s visit to address the problems associated with student loan debt this election season.

Iowa’s Habitat for Humanity and the University of Iowa Engineers for a Sustainable World have started working together on plans to create a home that will produce its own energy. The home will cost a total of $140,000, but it will save the inhabitants money in energy as well.

With the release of his new book and companion album, The Fourteenth Colony, Iowa City based writer and singer/songwriter, Jason T. Lewis has begun a new chapter in his unique creative life. I first met Lewis as my TA in a fiction writing class at the University of Iowa in 2006, when he was at the time in the renowned Iowa Writer's Workshop.

Every Wednesday night, local area bands are broadcast live from Public Space One through the University of Iowa's radio station, KRUI. This weekly program, entitled Little Village Live (LVL), is hosted by local music blogger and amateur photographer, Adrianne Behning.

One again, Obama targets college students as a major part of his campaign platform, campaigning at universities across the country, speaking on issues directly affecting college students. On Wednesday, April 25, 2012, Obama will be speaking to the University of Iowa.
