President Obama to Speak at the University of Iowa

One again, Obama targets college students as a major part of his campaign platform, campaigning at universities across the country, speaking on issues directly affecting college students. On Wednesday, April 25, 2012, Obama will be speaking to the University of Iowa.

Obama’s speech will be one that has come up in his election campaign already: student loan debt. He will be addressing the students from University of Iowa and others in attendance about the burden of student loan debt and how it is increasing greatly these days. This is a topic that Obama visits frequently.

This is a return spot for Obama. He has visited Iowa City and specifically the University of Iowa previously, and has returned there once again for this campaign season. It is a favorite destination of his to visit and speak, and has been since before his presidency.

This is an unusual factor because even though in general the president has drawn a crowd, the campus support itself has not always agreed with the President. Protestors have even assembled on campus during his visits when he spoke about health care.

The speech is scheduled to start at 1:20 p.m. The location is University of Iowa’s Field House, which is located at 225 South Grand Avenue on the University of Iowa Campus.  Doors open at 10:00am. A number of valid tickets were given out that incorrectly specified 10:00pm as the door opening time.

Tickets for those interested will go on sale Monday at the Iowa Memorial Box Office. Tickets are free, but you need to have a ticket in order to be able to get in because space is limited, and tickets will be distributed as individuals come.

Updated 4/23/11 11:00pm: Added door opening time.
