Former UI Student Joins Gay Marriage Campaign and Releases Book

A couple of days ago, a former of University of Iowa student made waves with the release of a book focusing on and openly supporting gay marriage.

Zach Wahls, of Iowa, gained significant internet fame after a video of Wahls speaking before the Iowa House of Representatives went viral, and recently again after appearing on social media site Reddit caused a resurgence of interest in Zach's speech.

Zach Wahls released his book entitled My Two Moms today. In the book, he tells the full story about how he benefitted from growing up in a household with gay parents.

The book itself spurred from a 3-minute long speech that Wahls gave in February of last year to the Iowa State legislators. His speech was in support of gay marriage in Iowa. This book is the extended version of what he was trying to tell the Iowa House of Representatives.

Wahls himself is quite well-known across the state and the nation as an avid gay rights supporter. His speech alone has received over 2 million YouTube hits since it was first posted online last year.

Wahls is taking his part in a campaign that is starting in Iowa called "Why Marriage Matters". This campaign is new to Iowa but has run all across the nation under the very same name with the very same goal: gay marriage rights.

In Iowa, the campaign was launched by the Freedom to Marry and One Iowa organizations. It is a $10 million effort created to combat opposition to strides that have already been made in the area of gay rights.

Wahls' book places him at the forefront of the campaign, a role he is more than happy to fill. He will be putting school on hold in order to take part in this campaign. He is proud of his story, his book and his efforts, and he wants the world to understand this.
