Iowa City workers save six ducks

The Iowa City Police Department and several maintenance workers performed a good deed Saturday afternoon as they saved a family of six ducklings that were trapped in a storm sewer while the mother waited anxiously.

According to omaha.com, a witness and the mother of six ducklings watched as they fell into a storm sewer and became trapped. The witness called the Iowa City police for assistance in getting the family of ducklings out of the storm sewer.

Officer Gabe cook responded to the call, but was unable to reach the ducklings. He enlisted the help of two local maintenance workers to get the ducklings out of the storm sewer.

One of the workers jumped into a manhole a little down from the spot where the ducklings were, keeping the ducklings between the sewer and himself.

His presence urged the ducklings toward the other worker, who had climbed down into the storm sewer to get the ducklings. With this method, the workers removed the ducklings one by one and placed them back onto safe ground with their mother.

The rescue was a success the family of ducks was reunited quickly.

This is not the first time these two maintenance workers have saved ducklings from the storm sewers. It is apparently something that is part of their job quite often.

They stated that they have saved many types of animal life that has gotten stuck in the sewers, including cats, opossums and other small animals that fall in and cannot climb out.
