Boston tragedy affects Iowa City

The Boston bombing has literally affected people from all across the nation, and Iowa City is no different. The tragedy has rocked the city, and residents as well as those that hail from Iowa City are reacting to the horrors that recently passed.



The recent tragedy in Boston had a very large impact on Iowa City, as many members of the University of Iowa running club were attending the marathon and witnessed the blasts and horror that followed the scene.



Three brothers from Cedar Falls were running together in the Boston Marathon and were there to witness the horror. Luckily, they were safe from the blast and remained unharmed, according to their mother.

Joseph, Daniel and David Sevcik were all running together in the marathon with the Iowa State University running club.

Unfortunately, that did not save them from the horrific sights that ensued after the bombs went off.

According to reports on the Iowa City Patch website as well as many other national news sites, the blasts began just before 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, April 15.

A total of 22 people were injured in the explosions and two were killed. Many of those affected were runners in the marathon or those that were attending the marathon at the finish to watch loved ones come in or simply enjoy the show.

Reporters have stated that chaos and horror followed.

Recent news has stated that the bombs were crafted from pressure cookers that were stored in nylon bags and backpacks, then deposited into garbage cans along the streets in Boston.
