Iowa City: 'There's an app for that'

Iowa City has a new development in the technological world. There will be a brand new smartphone and iPhone application rolling out that will allow you to file nuisance and other small complaints with the city right through the app.

According to an article on thegazette.com, there will be both an application and an online web service that will allow residents to make complaints about neighbors and nuisances.

The problems covered with this type of complaint include abandoned cars, graffiti, trash in yards, apartments not following rules, etc.

There is a complaint system in place with Iowa City already, but the phone message process does not often allow for a lot of communication, and has had some problems before. This will allow the city to respond directly to each complaint without losing track of them.

The application cost the city $5,000, and the city board believes it was well worth it. The city officials hope that the app will catch on and even be expanded later, but for now, they plan to see how well it works.

There will be an open house for the service held Monday, April 15 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at the Iowa City Hall for those that are interested in the service.

The service in both versions is expected to be available to Iowa City residents with smartphones tomorrow. It will be free to use.
