Iowa City house fire injures one

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a house fire Wednesday morning that resulted in the injury and hospitalization of one Iowa City woman.

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a call at around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning to Dubuque Street in Iowa City. The call stated that there was a house fire. One woman was inside the house.

By the time the fire department arrived at the scene to extinguish the  fire, responders were already loading the house's inhabitant, an adult female, into an ambulance to be taken to the hospital for injuries received while inside the house fire.

According to the fire department, the woman was not injured externally. She had no burns on her skin that were seen, but she had inhaled smoke and received injuries as a result of that. There was black around her nostrils from breathing the smoke, and it was assumed that she was actually in the flames at some point.

A neighbor reported that the resident of the home was shaken by the fire. She stated that the scene was chaotic and frightening. She noted that there was smoke coming out the windows and doors of the home.

The fire department was able to control and extinguish the early fire very easily and quickly.

The fire appeared to have originated in the kitchen, according to reports given when the fire was extinguished. Investigators are looking into the exact cause of the fire. The cause should be released within a few days.
