Iowa City Police had an interesting traffic stop last Sunday night. Instead of a routine couple that was speeding, they discovered a couple that had much more reason to be flying through the streets of Iowa City.
A recent news release stated that Iowa City Police pulled a couple over for speeding at a little after 10 p.m. Sunday night only to discover that the female in the car was in labor and they had been speeding to a hospital.
Officer Kevin Wolfe of the Iowa City Police Department was on duty and attempted to pull the car over after it sped past him. There was some trouble for a time, according to the report, to pull the car over.
When the car finally pulled over, its inhabitants revealed the real reason that they were traveling so quickly through the streets of Iowa City.
The driver, a male, jumped out of the car as soon as it was pulled over and notified the officer that they were having a baby girl right there at that moment.
The driver then proceeded go around the car and deliver the baby during the traffic stop, before Officer Wolfe could even assist with the delivery. The man wrapped the baby in a blanket, and they were allowed to proceed to the hospital.
The couple was released to continue on to Mercy Hospital, and their names were not taken in the traffic stop. The Iowa City Police Department does not know who the couple was.
