Foster a Pet in Iowa City with "Cold Noses, Warm Hearts"

The Iowa City Animal and Adoption Center is re-announcing its animal foster care program, "Cold Noses, Warm Hearts," to the public in anticipation of overcrowding, even though a new building is on the horizon for the center.

The new animal shelter is on its way to being build as of February 18. It is planned to be completed in 2015 and will house more animals than the original and temporary shelters, but officials for the Iowa City Animal and Adoption Center believe that in summer, the new shelter could still become overcrowded.

The original shelter was damaged in 2008, and the center has since been run in a temporary building. The temporary Iowa City Animal and Adoption Center houses a total of 80 animals, and even though it is currently not overcrowded, officials expect it to be by summer, which are the busiest months for animal shelters.

Because of this, the Iowa City Animal and Adoption Center is has attempted to bring its foster program to light again, hoping that more people will be interested in fostering animals by the time the shelter faces overcrowding this year.

The plan has gained a total of 53 foster families for animals in the 9 years it has been in operation, but the shelter hopes to gain more families.

The shelter held a recent informational session to inform interested individuals about the foster care program. It has a goal set to work with over 100 families willing to foster pets and keep the shelter from overcrowding.
