Messy Eating Gets Iowa City Man a Citation

Occasionally, when faced with the risk of being caught with marijuana, an individual makes up his mind to eat the evidence and potentially get out of the charge. This is something that usually fails, and it has once again with an Iowa City man recently.

An Iowa City man was arrested during a traffic stop Saturday night after he attempted to eat the evidence that he was in the possession of drugs, but failed to do so.

According to an article posted on the Iowa City Patch website, 24-year-old Steven Dorrell Lard was stopped while driving at just before 10 p.m. this past Saturday night.

When the officer approached Lard in the vehicle, he allegedly spotted a substance in Lard's lap that looked like marijuana. A trail led all the way up to his mouth. His sloppy eating habits alerted the officer to the fact that he was in possession of marijuana.

When the officer requested that Lard step out of the car, he did. He allegedly admitted to the officer that he had eaten the entire bag of marijuana, of course minus the crumbs that were scattered on his lap and shirt.

After, it was discovered that Dorrell had no valid driver's license.

Lard was arrested at the scene and taken to the Johnson County Jail. He was released on Sunday.

Lard faces two misdemeanors for the incident. He is charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and drug possession. This is at least his third drug possession-related offense.
