Iowa has been focusing lately on strip clubs in its legislatures. According to a recent post on Omaha.com, a legislation is being considered that would allow cities in Iowa to regulate strip clubs more closely.
The recently proposed bill states that cities would be allowed to pass ordinances banning nudity in any business. Of course, this drastically affects strip clubs, as they are businesses that promote public nudity.
Authorities would be able to directly control the nudity in these clubs with ordinances passed in their jurisdictions. They could limit the nudity with a single ordinance, not allowing the strip clubs to operate or controlling how they operate.
Supporters of the bill pointed out that cities do not currently have any control of what goes on in strip clubs and they need to have it. The passing of this bill would change that factor for legislatures.
Not everyone supports the bill, though. Those against it cite the bill as a potential violation of free speech because the authority could easily be taken too far due to interpretations and applications to various issues.
Regardless of the opinions of the public, the bill passed on a House sub-committee in Iowa Tuesday. It was passed by a sub-committee of 3 people and will move to the House Judiciary Committee.
This is not the first attempt by Iowa to target strip clubs. Iowa strip clubs have already experienced a ban on the sale of alcohol with their establishments among other laws passed involving taxes, etc.
