Teacher Stopped Knife Attack

An Iowa City Community Schools teacher stopped a 17-year old female from what could have been a fatal attack at an Iowa City restaurant Monday. He was initially not identified, but some confirmations have come about the identity of the alleged hero in the incident.



News releases that originally told of the attack identified that an unnamed male bystander averted a teenage female who was wielding a knife at the Red Pepper Bar & Grill a few days ago.

The unnamed male turned out to be an Iowa City Community School District teacher was the named hero. The teacher asked to remain anonymous, but he did state that his ALICE training helped him to stop the attacker.

ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. This is a training program designed to educate individuals to respond to violent situations.

The teacher stopped 17-year-old Heather Stanfield during the stabbing of a female customer with a kitchen knife at the Red Pepper Deli & Grill during lunchtime at the restaurant.

Stanfield, an employee of the restaurant, attacked another woman for unknown reasons, according to the police report. All that is known about the reason for the incident is that the two were somehow aware of each other that is is known is that the two were somehow aware of each other.

Stanfield was arrested, then moved to a juvenile facility and is charged with attempted murder for the stabbing.

The victim of the attack was injured but should recover from her injuries.
