According to a recent article posted on the Iowa City Patch website, the Iowa City Police Department made an unusual arrest the night of Friday, February 15. An incident at a local bar and grill led to a doorman being punched and a man trying to bite a police officer.
According to a police report, a man from Tama was arrested at the Brothers Bar and Grill after making quite a scene, which included punching a doorman at the bar.
Reports state that a little after 9:40 p.m., 24-year-old Reginald Clive Walker got into an argument with the doorman at Brothers Bar and Grill, punching him. The bar staff contacted police and detained the man while waiting for police to get to the scene and arrest him for the punch.
Walker did not cooperate, though, with the arrest efforts at all. Instead, he put up a fight, and when police were attempting to subdue him, he tried to bite an arresting officer in the leg.
Reports from the police state that Walker displayed slurred speech, an inability to walk on his own, and a strong smell of alcohol. They attempted to give him an alcohol test, but he allegedly refused it.
Walker was booked and charged, but released from the Johnson County Jail just an hour later due to circumstances that were not stated.
He faces a list of charges as a result of the incident: assault on a police officer, disorderly behavior, intoxication, and interference with official acts. All of the charges are misdemeanors.
