Facebook recently admitted that their system was hacked in January when their employees unintentionally downloaded a malware that has put the security of the platform at risk.
Facebook referred to the hacking as sophisticated, but appealed that Facebook user data were not compromised by this attack.
"This attack occurred when a handful of employees visited a mobile developer website that was compromised," Facebook stated on its security blog. "The compromised website hosted an exploit which then allowed malware to be installed on these employee laptops."
The reported malware was able to bypass the employee’s security software and infiltrate the Java system of the social media platform. Oracle, the Java manager of Facebook, has been informed of its vulnerability to certain malwares which made the company to issue a patch to Facebook to repair the problem on February 1st.
Facebook reassures its users that no personal information and files were compromised during the hacking incident and that it is now in cooperation with law enforcement and also with other victims of hacking to further develop a much secure platform for its employees and its users.
