According to an interview with the editorial board of The Des Moines Register, Sally Mason has confirmed that she will push for a continual freeze on in-resident tuition at the University of Iowa. She says that she will keep this plan for as long as she is in place as the president of the University of Iowa. A tuition freeze would mean that college administrators are not allowed to increase the tuition of the institution.
As well as covering her plans for tuition in the interview, Mason plans on talking to an appropriations committee tomorrow to discuss what she believes are the universities two biggest goals: each student’s success and the success of Iowa as a whole.
She also spoke to where the university is going in the future.
She said she believes that in the next 3-4 years, the University of Iowa will be changing dramatically due to construction. This construction is mostly in response to the floods of 2008, which destroyed many of the universities’ buildings and grounds. Mason says that Iowans can thank the governor, many people in legislature, as well as FEMA, for their part in aiding reconstruction.
