Iowa City Man Throws a Desk at Wife

Iowa City police responded to yet another incident of domestic violence Monday afternoon where a man was arrested after being accused of throwing a desk at his wife while their child was present and in the room with them.

Police responded to a call from a woman Monday afternoon at a little after 2 p.m. According to reports, the woman told the officers that her husband had been abusing her while their child was present and throwing things at her in their home.

The reports state that 37-year-old Alejandro L. Tanay, Jr. pushed his wife up against a dresser in their living room and then began to throw items in the house at her. One of these items that he threw at her was a desk.

The victim was not injured by any of the items that were thrown at her, and neither was the child. She stated that she pushed the child away in order to keep it from being hit by the items being thrown.

When the police investigated the home, the living room was in a disarray, consistent with the statement of the victim about her husband throwing items at her.

When questioned, Tanay admitted to helping his wife throw things around the room and also that he had difficulties dealing with his wife's illness, stating that counseling would help him with this.

Tanay was arrested and is charged with endangerment and domestic abuse, both misdemeanors He remained lodged in the Johnson County Jail as of Monday.
