Man Arrested for Threatening to Commit School Shooting

A man was arrested this morning, Wednesday, January 30,after he allegedly threatened to commit a school shooting just one day after the United States was hit with another tragic college shooting.

24-year-old Justin N. Coleman had been staying at the Shelter House in Iowa City when police responded to a call that he had been threatening to shoot people at a college in his hometown, Lincoln, Nebraska.

According to the reports by police, Coleman started making the threats through text messages to a friend in Lincoln at nearly midnight the night before.

The messages allegedly continued for over an hour and involved statements that he was armed and would be on the news for committing the crimes. They also made mentions that he would be killed by the police.

The messages stated that Coleman was going to kill a woman in Lincoln and shoot a number of people at a college. The woman and the school in question are not specified in the complaint.

It is unknown what school Coleman was threatening or if he would be able to get the weapons. This is still being investigated in a follow-up after the arrest.

When police responded at the Shelter House to complaints, Coleman began to yell and swear at them. He disturbed some of the other Shelter House residents as he was being taken into custody.

Coleman remains in custody. He faces one count of threat of terrorism, which is a felony, and also a count of disorderly conduct, which is a misdemeanor, for disturbances at the Shelter House.
