Woman Accused of Running Over Her Friend Has Trial Pushed Back Again

The Iowa City woman accused for running over and killing her friend in an argument was set to go to trial, but will wait longer. Her trial has been pushed back yet again - this time to May.

50-year-old Miranda Lalla was originally scheduled to be in court for her vehicular homicide charge February 12 of this year with her final pretrial conference to be held Monday.

That did not happen, though. Her attorney requested a continuance that was again granted with no resistance from the judge.

Lalla is set to go on trial for a charge associated with an incident that happened June 17 of last year. She was arrested after a fight led to her accidentally running over and killing her friend, 44-year-old Gross.

According to reports of the incident, the two had been at a local bar and Lalla had given Gross a ride home. The two arrived at the residence a few blocks from the home and began to argue, which turned physical.

Lalla allegedly got in her truck, and Gross tried to stop her by standing in front of the open driver's side door. She was knocked to the ground. Lalla backed up and ran over her again, according to witnesses. Gross was run over and killed.

Witnesses also said that Lalla went to a building nearby and changed her clothes, which she admitted to upon questioning. Lalla posted a .093 blood-alcohol content and admitted to being under the influence of drugs as well as having paraphernalia.

The new trail date is set for May 7, and her final pre-trail conference will now take place on April 26 instead.

Lalla can face up to 50 years if convicted of vehicular homicide.
