Iowa Man Beats Girlfriend in Front of Their Child

A domestic dispute led to the arrest of an Iowa City man after he abused a woman in front of a very young child, according to a post on the Iowa City Patch website.



An argument started between 20-year-old Emmanuel Vance Harvey, Jr. and his girlfriend erupted yesterday over another woman and a cellular phone. The argument quickly escalated and became very violent and dangerous.

During the argument, according to reports, Harvey attempted to break down a bedroom door to get at his girlfriend, who was in the bedroom. Police responded to a call when this was happening.

During the call, Harvey succeeded in breaking into the bedroom and began to hit his girlfriend. During a call, it was also reported that a dispatcher heard a small child crying in the background.

When officers arrived at the residence, they had to threaten Harvey with a Taser in order to get him to comply. He was then placed under arrest.

The woman admitted to the argument starting and escalating. She said that she fled to the bedroom and made the call, then Harvey broke in. She also stated that he shoved her head into the drywall, making a hole in it.

The entire situation happened in from of the couple's daughter, who is only a little over 2 years old.

Harvey's face was wounded when he was arrested. The woman had injuries on her face, neck and arms. She also stated she had pain in her head.

Harvey faces charges child endangerment with no injury and obstructing officers, both misdemeanors, and domestic abuse without intent causing injury, which is a serious misdemeanor.

He remains lodged in the Johnson County Jail. His bond is set at $7,500.
