"Go Eat a Taco"

A man from Iowa City wound up in jail Friday when he was very rude to a police officer, allegedly making a comment that the officer should "go eat a taco," according to a recent post on the Iowa City Patch website.

52-year-old Jeffrey Allen Clay of Iowa City was the subject of a probation check at his home Friday afternoon, a check to which he was initially uncooperative. He refused to answer the door when an officer knocked to perform the check.

The officer reported that he could hear noises inside the residence. Clay did not open the door for about ten or fifteen minutes.

The officer was finally let in the house, but was subject to verbal abuse from Clay. Clay told the officer to "go eat a taco" among other comments made. He also refused to cooperate during the room check and interfered with the officer's attempts to perform the search.

Clay was put under arrest for interfering with the search, as this outburst resulted in a violation of his probation. He was charged with violating his probation and interfering with official acts because of the incident, both of which are misdemeanors.

Clay has a criminal history in Iowa, including many misdemeanors and the offense for which he was on probation in the first place. This violation stems from domestic abuse charges and no-contact orders that date all the way back to 2011.

Clay remains lodged in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
