Woman Arrested for Bringing Marijuana into Jail

An Iowa City woman has been arrested after she was caught bringing several bags of marijuana into the Johnson County Jail recently when she was arrested and faces charges for possessing illegal contraband in a correctional facility.



22-year-old Evelyn Maribel Chinchilla of Iowa City was arrested on unrelated charges and brought several baggies of marijuana into the Johnson County Jail yesterday. She faces additional charges for the marijuana, according to an article on the Iowa City Patch website.

Chinchilla was arrested on charges by the Iowa City Police Department and booked into the Johnson County Jail at nearly 8:30 p.m. last night, January 19. The original charge on which she was arrested has not been released as of yet.

While she was being booked into the jail, she was instructed to remove illegal contraband several times, but failed to do so.

When she was searched according to booking practiced, she was discovered to be carrying many small prepackaged baggies of marijuana.
 
A total of 14 baggies were found on her person. The weight total of the contraband was 12.93 grams. She faces charges for the possession.

Chinchilla was booked and faces additional charges of possessing contraband in a correctional facility. This is a Class D felony, which will be added to the current sentence for the original charge.

She remains lodged in the Johnson County Jail for the original offense. Her bond is $3,000. An additional amount has yet to be added to the bond from the felony relating to the marijuana possession.
