Iowa Gets Four New Police Officers

According to an article on the Iowa City Patch Website, Thursday was a big day for the Iowa City Police Department as it welcomed four officers onto the force.

A swearing in ceremony was held Thursday for four new police officers who will be joining the Iowa City Police Department.

Two of the spaces were filled through a recent grant from the Department of Justice because they are military veterans. The grant specifies that the hired members paid with the money have to be veterans. The other two were hired to fill spaces for resignations that recently happened from the force.

The first of the new officers is 28-year-old Michael Harkrider. He is from Waterloo, a student at Hawkeye Community College. He is seeking a degree in Criminal Justice. His badge number will be 67 on the force.

23-year-old Robert Roof is the second of the four new officers. He also attended Hawkeye Community College in addition to Minneapolis Community and Technical College and Hennepin Technical College in Minnesota.

Kurt Fuchs is also 23 years old. He is from West Chicago, Illinois. He attended Aurora University and has a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He will be holding badge number 11 on the force.

21-year-old Jessica Bonnema is the fourth of the new officers sworn in on Thursday. She is from Springville and attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Souix City. She has a degree in Police Science. She will hold badge number 55.

The ceremony took place at City Hall on Thursday.
