The tech world is awash in all things CES 2013 right now. What could be better than having the opportunity to showcase the world's latest technologies, getting global press coverage and partying the days away in Vegas?
Here are some recent highlights as CES 2013 kicks off the week.
Ultra HD Televisions:
With pixel counts four times that of current HD TVs--offerings from Toshiba, LG and Samsung leave consumers with a multitude of options. However, tongues were wagging with the unveiling of Samsung's 85-inch flagship UN85S9 UHD TV. Samsung gave no details on price or availability, only that the model will ship this year.
LG also conveyed their 55-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED), which will retail for $12,000. It offers optimal color saturation, and weighs less than similarly sized options coming in at 22 lbs.
GPS In the Cloud:
Magellan debuted its SmartGPS device, which is cloud-based and will retail this spring for $249. It is designed to sync wirelessly to a PC, smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Additionally, it produces a free app for iOS or Android devices. The SmartGPS device also offers social commentary as you head to your final destination, giving tips on nearby restaurants or hotels, for example.
Waterproof Smartphones:
Sony unveiled their latest and waterproof Xperia smartphones. They combine not only an HD display and speedier camera, but you can take them for a swim as well.
Vizio Targets The Tablet Market:
Popular TV maker Vizio is now claiming a stake in the tablet world. They are offering the MTIIX-A; a line of all-in-one Android tablets, which feature an 11.6-inch screen, full 1080p HD and the full version of Windows 8. They are set to be available in the spring, and expected to start at $800.
Anticipated Highlights:
On Tuesday, Intel and Plastic Logic plan to debut the PaperTab. This tablet is a bendable touchscreen with a 10.7-inch high-resolution display made to be as thin and flexible as paper. Users can bend the tablet to facilitate specific functions such as fast-forwarding a video, and will have several interactive displays.
