Man Faces Allegations of Committing Sexual Acts with a Girl Under 12

A man is facing steep charges after being accused of sexually assaulting an Iowa City girl who was not only a minor, but under 12 years old.

38-year-old Scott Allen Griffey of Muscatine faces charges of felony sexual abuse after he was arrested for committing sex acts with a girl under 12.

According to a recent article posted on the Iowa City Patch website, the girl reported Scott Allen Griffey, accusing him of entering her bedroom and performing sex acts on her. The complain states that he "caused her pain."

The incident allegedly happened the night of Dec. 6. Griffey is accused of entering the girl's house when everyone was asleep.

The girl told adults about the incident, and they called the police for her. She was taken to the hospital to be examined. The doctor's findings confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted.

Griffey's story is that he was not only innocent of the crime, but claimed that he was actually sleeping during the time the girl was assaulted and could not have been guilty of the crime.

Witnesses argued against the statement made by Griffey, saying he was in fact not asleep during the time of the assault and could have been the individual that assaulted the young girl.

Griffey was arrested on December 14 and remains in the Johnson County Jail. His bond is set at $75,000. He faces a charge of second-degree sexual abuse, which carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
