Another Shooting Touches the World

For many this morning, the Christmas season has introduced a new emotion: pain. A tragic school shooting today as an elementary school in Connecticut has left 26 people dead as of yet, including 20 children, according to a Wall Street Journal article.



This afternoon, a son of one of the teachers at Sandy Hook elementary School opened fire on the school at a little after 9:30 this morning. This could be the worst shooting that has happened in a school as of yet.



The shooter was originally identified incorrectly as a man named Ryan Lanza. The shooter is actually named Adam Lanza, who is Ryan's brother. His mother was among the victims at the school.

The shots were concentrated in a single area in the school. According to reports, the suspect had two handguns near his body. The school was put on lock down until the threat was secured.

One teacher pressed her body against a door without a lock to prevent anyone from entering and was shot as a result, but saved many students in the classroom. Three teachers even jumped out of a window to escape the shooting.

Law enforcement has been investigating the cause of the shooting.

President Barack Obama issued an emotional speech about the shooting. During the speech, he spoke about some of the children who were killed during the event, being a parent himself.

The total dead as a result of this tragedy is actually 28, as the gunman was found dead in the school and the shooter's father was discovered dead in another part of the same town.
