Monticello Blaze Damages Two Buildings

Monticello, Iowa recently had a very rough time in its downtown area, according to an article on kcrg.com. A fire broke out and took several different fire departments to extinguish the blaze.

A fire in the downtown Monticello area was reported to be breaking out Wednesday at around 3:40 a.m. The Monticello Fire Department responded to the blaze.

The blaze broke out in what was believed to be the back of a carpet store called Monticello Carpet and Interiors or the building next door and spread to to other buildings in the downtown area.

A second building in addition to the carpet store was damaged in the fire before firefighters could put it out, but the blaze was able to be contained to just the two buildings and did not spread further.

Thankfully, nobody was injured in the blaze. Residents who lived near the blaze were evacuated.

Several fire departments from nearby towns helped the Monticello Fire Department put out the blaze as quickly as possible. It was a major worry that the fire would quickly spread to the other very close buildings, many of which are wall-to-wall in the downtown area.

The amount of damage to the buildings is still being assessed. It is known that there is major damage to the two buildings and some of the nearby buildings had some minor water and smoke damage.

The fire was still being extinguished in the afternoon, and officials are still investigating the cause. The fire department is still searching for hot spots to make sure that the fire will not spread.
