A shooting in Iowa City occurred Sunday night and ended with a man nearly losing his life as a result. According to the Iowa City Patch website, the shooting had to do with drugs and drug debt.
The Iowa City and Cedar Rapids police launched an investigation at a little after 9 Sunday night when they responded to a report of a male shooting victim being treated for his injuries at Mercy Hospital.
According to the report given to police, the victim knew the shooter.
The investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Peter Francis Thullen and 19-year-old Andrew David Meyer, both of Cedar Rapids. Both were arrested by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Complaints stated that Thullen and Meyer entered the home of the victim's residence with a loaded handgun and the intention of intimidating him. They allegedly admitted to doing this, stating that he owed them money for a drug debt.
Reports state that Thullen was the shooter, causing injuries that would have resulted in his death had he not been taken to the hospital for treatment after calling emergency responders.
Thullen faces two felonies: first-degree burglary and going armed with intent. Meyer faces two charges as well: first-degree burglary/joint criminal conduct and going armed with intent/joint criminal conduct.
Both men currently remain lodged in the Johnson County Jail. Their bonds are set at $100,000 each.
The incident is still under investigation, although police believe that there is currently no threat to public safety related to the incident.
