Some new and potentially incriminating news has recently come to light involving the former University of Iowa athletics department counselor regarding his career during his leave from University of Iowa.
According to an article on cbsnews.com, Peter Gray, who left his position at the University of Iowa the first time on good terms, was actually fired from his job at a college in South Carolina in 1999.
The college was a liberal arts school called Coastal Carolina University, located in Conway, S.C. Gray had left University of Iowa to take a job elsewhere and worked for a brief time at CCU.
A recently released report stated that he Gray was dismissed from the position after less than a year due to "unsatisfactory working results" and would not be rehired at the school because of it. The document also stated that Gray's employment was not in the best interest of the institution.
This is a factor that may have a significant effect on the current sexual harassment investigation by police, Iowa officials, and University of Iowa. It puts into question the terms of his second stint at the college from 2002 until his recent resignation, which was already being investigated.
Gray resigned last week after he was accused of sexually harassing student athletes. There were many allegations against Gray and evidence has been piling up as a result of the investigation, including some confessions from Gray himself.
His inappropriate behavior allegedly dates back to his first stint at University of Iowa, which ended in 1995, which is why his second term is being investigated and questioned.
University officials, though, defend their decision and state that they had no knowledge of the behavior problems. They also defend his good work at the school in keeping athletes' grades up.
Gray worked at the University of Mississippi as well from 1995 to 1998. Nothing has come about from this school. He worked at Indiana University before returning to UI, but no information about his job there has been released yet.
Gray has still not responded with comments on the allegations since his resignation.
