UI Athletic Adviser Resigns After Sex Accusations

An athletics adviser for the University of Iowa resigned last week and is facing allegations of trading tickets and money for sexual favors, according to the Sioux City Journal Website.

Peter Gray, who worked as director of Athletic Student Services and director of academic of advising and counseling, has been accused of inappropriate touching of student athletes and trading money and tickets for sexual favors.

He had worked at the school on two different occasions - once from 1993 to 1995 and the other time from 2002 until recently.

Gray's duties at his job included counseling for student athletes belonging to the women's basketball and swimming, and men's golf and swimming teams.

Gray resigned from his job Monday, where his salary had been over $70,000 annually, allegedly because of "personal reasons," according to Gary Barta, the Athletics Director.

An investigation into Gray's actions was launched by the school's employment offices and human resources department, and report was released issuing everything that he is accused of and what has been found against him.

The investigation and report brought forth quite a history of problems. He apparently has made several sexual harassment violations. He is accused of sexual comments to recruits and parents of students.

The investigation also discovered explicit photos on his work computer, including many of college-aged individuals in anything from swimsuits to engaging in sexual acts. Text messages, emails and photographs have all been discovered.

A student has accused Gray of exchanging money and football tickets for sexual favors from a person outside of the UI community. Gray has denied these accusations.

Another student accused Gray of touching his or her genitalia, and offering to perform oral sex. Gray admitted to the comments and the offer to perform oral sex, but claims he has no memory of details.

Gray has a history of inappropriate behavior over his two durations at the school, according to the report that was released.
