Mother Accused of Giving Toddler Alcohol Arrested

The Iowa City woman who faced charges associated with giving her toddler alcohol failed to appear in court in September and has now been arrested on warrants as a result, according to an article on kcrg.com.

217-year-old Natasha Kriener was originally arrested February 17 on charges of allegedly giving alcohol to her toddler and causing him to be intoxicated.

The child's father took the boy to the emergency room two days before because he was displaying symptoms of intoxication after he picked the child up from his mother's house.

The boy was discovered to have a blood-alcohol level of .097. The legal driving limit for an adult is .08. The signs he was showing included discomfort, crying, and poor balance.

Police visited Kriener and discovered that her blood-alcohol content was .251. A sibling told police that the boy got sick from drinking some soda, according to the police report.

Kriener was arrested for the incident and charged with child endangerment causing bodily injury and neglect, both of which are felonies.

Kriener's pretrial conference was scheduled for September 17 and her trial was set for September 25. She did not show up for either of these, and action was taken as a result. A $20,000 warrant was issued for her arrest upon her failure to appear.

On November 1, she was arrested again on the warrant for failure to appear at her trial date. She was given a new trial date and will remain in jail.

Kriener's new trial is set for February 12.
