A school official for Southeast Polk was recently arrested for public intoxication, according to an article released on the Des Moines Register website.
38-year-old Kevin Southiphab Baccam of Altoona, who is the Executive Director of Business Services for Southeast Polk, was arrested on Saturday in Iowa City after he was found highly intoxicated in a public location.
According to a police report, Baccam was found sleeping in the stands of Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, at roughly 8:30 p.m. after the University of Iowa vs. Penn State football game that evening.
It seemed as if he had been vomiting when he was found. According to a statement by the officer, he attempted to wake Baccam up, who smelled of alcohol and was unable to stand easily.
Baccam was given a breath test. The result was that he had a blood alcohol content of .127. Baccam was arrested, but posted $325 bond. An investigation regarding the incident is currently under way.
Baccam has entered a plea of not guilty since his arrest. His trial is schedule for January 23. He was placed on administrative leave, but will potentially return to work on Thursday pending the results of the investigation, according to the school district's policy.
This is his first offense involving alcohol, according to public records, but this is the second arrest of a Southeast Polk administrator within 6 weeks. Another school official was arrested recently for driving while intoxicated. He was put on leave as well and returned to work later.
