A North Liberty woman has been arrested on charges of first-degree theft after she was discovered to have allegedly stolen over $11,000 from her employer over almost two years.
35-year-old Jennifer Rebecca Hauser, was discovered by her employer at O'Reilly Auto Parts in Iowa City to have been stealing money, and was confronted on August 28 about her theft. She admitted to the crime to the loss prevention department at her workplace.
She was arrested by the Iowa City Police Department, according to thegazette.com. According to a report, she also admitted her thefts to the police.
According to the police report, Hauser obtained the money through false returns on her personal credit cards.She also created extra items in the inventory to compensate for the returns and keep the numbers balanced to avoid being discovered.
It worked for nearly two years before her employer discovered her. An investigation was launched and it was discovered that Hauser stole money from September 2010 to July 2012. Over this time, she stole a total of $11,013.17.
Hauser was discovered to already have a criminal history. She has been charged with assault in 2001 and 2002, as well as robbery in 2001, but that charge was dropped. She has minor theft and drug and alcohol charges as well.
Hauser was released from Johnson County Jail Thursday morning and faces trial. She could face up to 10 years in prison for the felony committed. She could not be reached for comment after her release on Thursday.
