Zombies in Iowa City

Saturday, Iowa City held its 7th annual Zombie March, and it was again a success with more than 300 attendants.

Every year, Iowa City holds a Zombie March on Halloween, which is a long march throughout Iowa City where people dress up as zombie versions of various characters.

The walk goes from Happy Hallow Park all the way to downtown Iowa City, with many onlookers there to enjoy the parade of horror.

The Zombie March was started in 2006 by Shawn Beatty. The next year, he invited charities to participate in the event. He is now known as the Zombie King each year.

The walk has raised money for donation for a variety of different events, including the Humane Society of Johnson County and the Iowa Center for AIDS Resources and Education. They collect and donate food for Table to Table each year as well.

This year, the sponsor was the East Central Iowa Autism Society. The co-president Jennifer Bohn was glad to have her organization take part in the annual walk.

This year, there was a Las Vegas theme for the Zombie March. Iowa City saw a zombie invasion of over 300 people dressed as characters having to do with Sin City, covered in zombie makeup and fake blood.

There were a variety of different costumes. There were a few dressed as zombie Elvis impersonators and dancing girls, for example. Beatty was there as well, wearing a sequined tuxedo and zombie makeup.

Beatty said that Iowa City is the perfect place for such a unique event.
