A man in Iowa City was arrested yesterday and faces charges of domestic assault after allegedly choking a patient at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, then trying to smother him.
24-year-old Lucas D. Cooper of Grundy Center was arrested Tuesday after a report was filed that he had inflicted harm on a patient. According to University of Iowa police, he choked one of the patients while the man was in his bed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
According to kcrg.com, Cooper was laying next to a patient at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and put pressure on the victim's throat with his hands. The criminal report also stated that he put his hand over the victim's nose and mouth to prevent breathing.
The victim had a scratch on his neck from the incident and also reported headache, dizziness, and a sore throat as a result of the incident. A report was filed and Cooper was arrested for the act.
Cooper was arrested Tuesday for the crime and faces a felony charge of domestic assault - strangulation. Records show that a public defender's office has been assigned to the case. As of yet, there is no record of who the public defender will be on the case.
As of now, no more information is known about the incident. The victim's name has not been released as of yet.
He remains lodged in Johnson County Jail. His bond is set at $15,000 cash only.
