An Iowa City man has been arrested and will face charges after he pointed a shotgun at several other people, one of which was his girlfriend.
25-year-old Athan Lee Cress faces charges after a fight with his girlfriend led him to pull out a shotgun, load it, and point it at everyone present.
Officers responded to an Iowa City call at nearly 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning after they were contacted with a report of a fight that was going on.
At the house, Lee's girlfriend and the other witnesses present stated that the fight between Lee and his girlfriend had become violent. They stated he threw her against the wall several times before the situation led to the shotgun being pulled out.
They informed police that he grabbed a .12 gauge shotgun, loaded it, and began to point it at his girlfriend and the other people that were in the residence at the time. One of the witnesses stated he wrestled the gun from Cress, and Cress left.
According to police, Cress left before they got to the house, but he was discovered and apprehended just a few blocks away.
Cress faces charges of domestic abuse as well as two counts of assault with intent to inflict serious injury or while displaying a dangerous weapon. He remains in custody.
Cress admitted that he threw his girlfriend away from him twice. He stated that he had no idea the weapon was loaded and pointed it at them just to scare them.
