University of Iowa vs. Iowa State

This weekend was a big one for Iowa City. The University of Iowa Hawkeyes met with their intrastate rivals, the Iowa State Cyclones.

Things did not end well, though, for the Hawkeyes this year as Iowa State took a victory from them.

According to espn.com, the Cyclones took down the Hawkeyes by only three points, which was the lowest scoring game between the two in 24 years. The final score at the end of the game was 9 to 6 in favor of the Cyclones. This was the first Cyclone win in Iowa City in a decade.

The Cyclone quarterback Steele Jantz still had a very good game, though. He threw the game's only touchdown and a total of 241 yards. Last year, he was a dominating force against the Hawkeyes, too.

The Cyclones only got one touchdown during the game, which would normally put a team in trouble. Iowa State did not score in the second half of the game either, but their defense held very strong and kept the Hawkeyes down to two field goals for the entire game.

The play that made the difference, though, was the interception by Jake Knott that sealed the win. There was only a little over a minute left in the game when Knott tipped the pass thrown by James Vandenburg, giving the Cyclones the ball for the last minute of the game and Iowa no chance of coming back.

The last Iowa State victory over the Hawkeyes in Iowa City was in 2002.
