Iowa City in for a Big Weekend

Iowa City is in for quite a chaotic weekend as a visit from President Barack Obama was added to the city's already big football plans. Iowa City's police are preparing for the chaos.



According to thegazette.com, Saturday's annual football game between the Hawkeyes and Iowa State will draw a large amount of people. Iowa City and Iowa State are intrastate rivals.

This annual celebration for fans of the Hawkeyes, the FryFest, is considered the state's biggest party of year. Named for the the former Iowa coach Hayden Fry, this event draws tens of thousands of people every year. This year, it will happen in Coralville, not far from Iowa City, on the Friday before Saturday's game.

The night before the festival, rapper TPain will be giving a concert. At the festival, Hayden Fry himself is supposed to speak, and country star Sara Evans will perform a concert. Fryfest happening right before the game this year is expected to draw more of a crowd than ever.

In addition to this, Iowa City will be packed with thousands of people as well as President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will visit the city on Friday. His original visit was supposed to be on Monday, but was pushed back to the end of the week as he toured the damage from Hurricane Isaac.

Campus buildings and even blocks of downtown Iowa City will be shut down for the president's visit. Many classes have been cancelled or relocated due to this. Traffic is expected to be even worse.

The Iowa City and Coralville Police Departments are both gearing up for weekends filled with emergencies and accidents. This weekend is expected to be one of the most chaotic weekends in the history of the city.
