Iowa City, IA - The Iowa Chapter of The Delta Chi Fraternity will celebrate the chapter’s 100th anniversary on September 21-22nd, 2012.
Larry Audlehelm, Iowa '71 will be the keynote speaker for the event. Mr. Audlehelm has served in numerous capacities at the chapter and International Fraternity level and currently serves as the Chapter Advisor (“BB”). Other notable speakers include Aaron Otto (International Officer) and speakers from the various eras that will provide insight to the mood of the campus, chapter, and life as an undergraduate member. The banquet will be held at the Iowa Memorial Union with 160 local undergraduates and alumni expected to be in attendance.
The Delta Chi Fraternity, founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. on Oct. 13, 1890, is one of the fastest growing college fraternities in the United States and in Canada. The Fraternity boasts over 135 chapters and colonies and over 100,000 initiates.
The Iowa Chapter was founded on the University of Iowa campus on December 7, 1912 and began with 16 original members. With the Fraternity originally being founded as a law fraternity, the Iowa Chapter boasted both undergraduate and Law School members in the early years. Since it's founding, the Iowa Chapter has initiated over 1,610 members and currently boasts 48 active and associate members.
The Iowa Chapter has occupied three different houses in its history, quartered soldiers during World War II (1943-1945), and currently resides atop the hill at 308 Ridgeland Avenue (across from Hancher Auditorium). Distinguished alumni include O.K. Patton (founder and Iowa Law faculty), Ashton Kutcher (actor), numerous General and officers/members of the United States Military, and a astounding number of successful businessmen, philanthropists, and men of high moral character.
Thousands of alumni have distinguished themselves in some way. Among these are one president, several congressmen, an FBI director, professional athletes, actors, business leaders and a space shuttle commander.
