Information about contacts that the suspect in the Colorado shooting at a Batman movie premiere made before he took action. The ties revealed a link with the University of Iowa.
According to www.macon.com, 24 year old James Holmes attempted to contact his university psychiatrist not even ten minutes before opening fire on the public at the Batman movie. This was revealed during court today.
The information given was revealed during a hearing regarding Holmes's relationship with Lynne Fenton, a psychiatrist at the University of Colorado. According to the report given, he attempted to contact Lynne Fenton, and she was unable to be reached.
Fenton denied a continuing doctor-patient relationship with Holmes after July 19, stating that she contacted a police officer after meeting with him on June 11 because she had concerns.
Holmes faces charges for opening fire during the premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises." He killed 12 people and injured 58 more during the shooting.
In addition to this recent discovery, a connection with the University of Iowa was revealed. The University of Iowa released records showing that Holmes was rejected form the graduate neuroscience program. His application was denied after he visited campus for an interview and University of Iowa officials would not give any more information.
According to the report, Holmes applied to the University of Iowa neuroscience program in 2010 and was given an interview in late January of 2011. Two days after the interview, the director of the neuroscience program wrote an email urging admissions to not accept him under any circumstances.
In 12 total pages of information released by the University of Iowa, no elaboration was given on why he was denied admission or why the emails recommending that he not be admitted were written either, other than that he left a very negative impression.
Nothing was filed about potentially dangerous behavior, so the source of the negative impression was unclear. It could have been demeanor, or it could have been something in his research interests.
After the rejection, Holmes ended up attending the University of Colorado, which he left in June.
