Murder Waives Extradition

The man who was recently arrested in Illinois in connection with a shooting death in Iowa City has waived his extradition rights and will be transferred to Johnson County to face first-degree murder charges.

According to the Des Moines Register website, 27-year-old Brandon D. Brown was arrested Tuesday night in Cook County, Illinois after the department forwarded a tip to Cook County about Brown's whereabouts.

Brown faces first degree murder charges after shooting 30-year old Donelle Derrell Lindsey. According to witness reports, he asked Lindsey to walk with him, then the two began to argue.

Brown pulled out a handgun and shot Lindsey, many of the bullets hitting his chest. He was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he died. Witnesses to the incident positively identified Brown.

Brown had fled Iowa City after the shooting and returned to a residence of a friend in Illinois, where he was discovered by officers on August 21 and arrested without incident. Brown was known to reside not far from Cook County.

Police finally released information about the search of the house that had not been previously released, stating that nobody else was found and nothing was seized. Authorities traveled to Cook County to speak with Brown, but it is unknown whether he accepted the interview.

Brown waived extradition on Wednesday at his hearing and now remains in Cook County, awaiting extradition to Iowa, where he could face life in prison on the charge of first degree murder.

Brown already has 11 arrests on his record, including assault and drug-related incidents.
