An Illinois man was arrested and could face chargers of first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a City High Graduate in Iowa City on June 21.
According to kcrg.com, a 27-year-old Brandon Brown was arrested Tuesday night in South Holland Illinois by their police department. Investigators in Illinois notified the Iowa City police that they received a tip on where Brown could be and began surveillance.
When Brown was spotted at the location, which was his home, he was arrested by the Cook County authorities. His home was also searched, but the results of the search have not been made public.
Brown was wanted in connection with the death of 30-year-old Donelle, Derrel Lindsey. According to witnesses, Brown asked Lindsey to walk with him down the street at nearly midnight on June 21.
The two began to argue and Brown pulled out a handgun, shooting Lindsey several times. Lindsey was pronounced dead by the time he got to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Witnesses positively identified Brown as the shooter in a lineup.
Brown was wanted on a first-degree murder warrant with a $1 million cash-only bond. He is considered a flight risk after he left Iowa City and returned to Illinois.Brown remains at the Cook County correctional facility pending extradition to Johnson County for the first degree murder charges he could face.
Once Brown goes before the judge, he will either waive extradition and return Iowa City to face the murder charge, or fight it. If Brown does fight it, it could take him much longer to arrive in Iowa City to face the second degree murder chargers.
