Hank Williams, Jr. played at the Iowa State Fair this past Friday night, but something that may be unexpected came out of the country music legend during the fair.
Hank, now 63 years old, played for nearly 8,500 people for nearly two hours. He even played some tributes to greats that he listened to as he was growing up, including Fats Domino, Johnny Cash and even Elvis. He even played one of his father's songs during the performance.
The set, though, was not the point of the performance that drew so much attention. Later in the set, a chant of "USA" broke out in the crowd, spurring Hank to make yet a very political remark.
According to www.freep.com, Hank stated, "We've got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S., and we hate him!"
This political statement created a wave of cheers in the crowd, and gained the singer more attention than possibly the performance would have on its own.
Hank finished his performance with his incredibly popular "Family Tradition" and a Kris Kristofferson's "If You Don't Like Hank Williams."
This is not the first time that Hank has taken it upon himself to insert political commentary into his shows. It is reminiscent of his criticism last year of the president that got him in quite a bit of trouble with ESPN.
Last year, Hank took it upon himself to criticize President Obama in a performance on Fox News and, as a result, ESPN dropped his "Monday Night Football" theme song, replacing it with one performed by country star Faith Hill.
