Synthetic Drugs Seized in Iowa

The In-Zone, an Iowa City business, is suspected of selling illegal synthetic drugs after a lengthy investigation and a seizure of products from the store.

Multiple reports and a lengthy investigation by the Johnson County Multi-Agency Narcotics Task Force and the Iowa City Police Department's Street Crimes Action Team led to the seizure of a large amount of synthetic substances that are thought to be bath salts.

Authorities began to investigate a place called the In-Zone when they received reports that the business was selling synthetic drugs. This lead to a search and the seizure of about 400 items that are suspected to be bath salts, according to thegazette.com.

Bath salts are synthetic herbs that are dried and sprayed with chemicals. People use these by smoking or snorting them. They are a controlled substance and have a variety of very dangerous side effects, as well as hallucinogenic effects. Authorities have cracked down on these as they have become much more popular recently.

The In-Zone is a location in Iowa City that advertises many different goods. The store sells everything from chips and sodas to hand-blown glass and hookas.

The investigation has also led to other finds, including posts about pipes that are used to smoke. No comments on the investigation would be given by the staff of the In-Zone.

The substances are being tested at the state's criminal investigation laboratory. No results have come back as of yet, and charges for the crimes are still pending, awaiting the results of the laboratory testing.
