Iowa City Woman Joins International Peace Bike Tour

An Iowa City woman will join the masses in this year's International Peace Bike Tour in Japan. During the trek, which is set to begin August 7, she and over 30 other people will ride their bikes across Japan.

According to kcrg.com, 23-year old Michelle Gin will join this year's International Peace Bike Tour that will go from Nagasaki to Hiroshima, a 340 mile long ride. The focus of the ride is to protest nuclear weapon creation by nations around the world and spread the idea of peace.

Gin states that governments need to know that people want peace and don't support nuclear developments. During the bike tour, the bike riders will stop during the journey to meet with local and national leaders to spread the message of the ride.

She will be one of 34 people participating in the event from all around the world. Participants will come from Japan and other countries, including India, Egypt, South Africa, Germany, Ukraine and many other countries, all joining together to spread the same message with the peace ride.

Gin graduated from the University of Iowa recently and now works as the assistant development director for the Iowa Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Gin will leave for Japan this week to take part in the event and is finishing up her work to gain money in support of the event. She will be the only participant in the tour from the United States.
