Yet another University of Iowa athlete has had a run-in with the law and has been arrested. 20-year old runningback De'Andre Johnson has been suspended from the team because this will be his second misdemeanor in a matter of just three days.
Johnson left his residence on a motorcycle Saturday evening, according to the Iowa City Patch website, and was observed by an officer who was sitting at a red light going 60 mph in a 25 mph speed limit zone.
According to the officer, when he turned on his lights, instead of pulling over, Johnson continued to accelerate and gained enough distance to park his bike in a yard a few blocks from his home. According to the report, Johnson claimed he was looking for a friend at the residence near his home, but this was not confirmed.
Johnson was charged with alluding, adding to the disorderly house charge he had received a few days earlier. The charge is a misdemeanor.
Even so, it was enough to get him suspended from the team activities. Kirk Ferentz, the Iowa football coach, issued a statement expressing his disappointment in Johnson for the situation.
Johnson's suspension is for an undetermined amount of time. Johnson already has a history of previous arrests and injuries that have limited his play time thus far.
Johnson is the second Hawkeye athlete to be arrested recently, after the center for the girls' basketball team had a run-in with the police of her own not too long ago.
