An Iowa woman has pleaded guilty to an attempt to extort the company that owns the cable network TLC.
According to www.macon.com, 49-year old Teresa Hunt, a photographer from Bettendorf, has admitted to attempting to extort TLC by revealing an affair involving one of the cast members on the show "19 Kids and Counting," a popular series on TLC.
According to reports, Hunt contacted Discovery Communications, Inc., the parent company of TLC, stating she had incriminating photographs of a cast member of "19 Kids and Counting." She stated that the pictures would display an affair with a 56-year old singer from Branson, Missouri.
The report also states that Hunt threatened to release the pictures if she was not paid $10,000 or the show was cancelled. This led the network to contact the FBI and begin an investigation.
There has been no official statement of who the targets were of the crime, but Duggar cousin Amy Duggar believes it to be herself and her good friend James Garrett of Branson. They admit knowing each other and performing in Branson together on several occasions, but deny a romantic relationship.
Hunt also knew Garrett. She worked for him as a photographer, and the arrangement did not end well. Hunt still insists on the truth to her statements about Duggar and Garrett, and also claims that the photos she has are real as well. Duggar and Garrett have called the story laughable.
Hunt's sentencing is scheduled for November 9 and will probably face a jail sentence of about 8 to 12 months.
