Lalla Pleads Not Guilty

Miranda Lalla, the Iowa City woman who has been charged with vehicular homicide after running over and killing her friend with a car last month has decided to plead not guilty.

Miranda Lalla, 50, allegedly ran over her friend with a truck after the two were in a fight leaving the bar on the evening of June 17. Lalla was first arrested and charged with her second drunk driving offense, but further charges came later when autopsy results were returned.

On the evening of June 17, Lalla and her friend Pamela Gross, 44, left a local bar and proceeded to get in a fight across the street from Lalla's home. The fight turned physical and Lalla tried to leave, but Gross blocked her.

Lalla backed the vehicle up, causing Gross to fall to the ground, and then proceeded to run completely over her and kill her, hitting another vehicle in the process as well according to a witness.

Police responded to the incident. When they returned to arrest Lalla, she had gone across the street to her home to change clothes, which she informed police she did because she ripped her dress in the fight.

Lalla admitted to having a few beers and only blew a .093 when she was tested for alcohol. Lalla later admitted to having drug paraphernalia and was suspected of being under the influence of crack cocaine as well.

Lalla will face up to 50 years in prison if she is found guilty of vehicular homicide.
