Iowa City Woman Charged with Vehicular Homicide

50-year old Miranda Lee Lalla, the Iowa City woman that ran over her friend with a truck, faces additional charges after the results of the autopsy have returned.

Lalla was originally arrested and only charged with her second DUI offense after she ran over her friend, Pamela Gross, killing her after the two had been in a fight.

According to sources, the two friends had come home from a bar on the evening of June 17 and had then gotten into a fight that turned physical. Witnesses reported that the two were good friends and had not been fighting when they originally left the bar.

Lalla tried to leave, but Gross attempted to stop her by standing in the area of the open door next to the driver. Lalla put the vehicle in gear, knocking Gross to the ground. She continued to drive and drove over Gross, leading to her friend's death. Lalla also reportedly hit another vehicle in her attempt to leave the scene.

Police responded to the incident and arrested an intoxicated Lalla. Her blood alcohol content was found to be a .093. Police were waiting on blood tests to come back to see if Lalla was under the influence of any substance other than alcohol.

Investigation resulted in additional charges on top of the second DUI. She was charged with vehicular homicide, which is a class B felony and carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 25 years.

Lalla remains lodged in the Johnson County Jail. Her bond is set at $50,000.
