50-year old Miranda Lalla of Iowa City has recently been charged with drunken driving after she ran over her friend with a truck and killed her Sunday night. Pamela Gross, 44, died of injuries related to the incident that spurred from a fight.
According to police report, Lalla had a few beers at a local bar before she got into her vehicle and drove home Sunday evening. She only lived a few blocks from the bar and arrived home at around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Soon after, Lalla and Gross began to get into a physical fight. The fight continued as Lalla tried to leave and Gross stopped her by standing next to the open driver's side door.
Lalla put the truck in reverse, knocking Gross to the ground and continued to back up, running over her friend, who died that night. Lalla also hit a neighbor's SUV in the incident.
Lalla was discovered to have a BAC of .093, which led police on the scene to ask for a blood test. Lalla refused and a warrant was obtained for one. The results were not available as of Monday.
As of now, Lalla is being charged with her second count of drunken driving, but more charges could be filed when the results of Gross's autopsy and the blood tests come back.
According to people at the bar, neither of the women had a reputation for fighting and there was no trouble between the friends. It is still unclear what sparked the argument.
