3 More Children Removed from Balderas Home

In light of the investigation and arrests that have been made due to the fatal beating of 20-month old Marcus Balderas, the three remaining children have been removed from the home of the mother and her boyfriend.

After Marcus was killed and autopsy results discovered that the child died due to blunt trauma to the head, the mother, Mireya Balderas and her boyfriend Jorge Perez had been apprehended and charged for the death of the infant. A DHS investigation had already been launched.

According to reports, the infant had suffered many external injuries and even had internal bleeding in addition to the head trauma, showing that he had been abused quite often.

Upon questioning, both the mother and her boyfriend admitted to quite a bit of abuse of the baby on April 30, the day the child was taken to the hospital for reportedly not being able to breath. Perez admitted to neglect of the child and severe abuse, then later said, according to a statement on kcrg.com, that it was all lies.

Regardless, both Balderas and Perez are currently in jail facing criminal charges for abuse of the infant, though police believe the abuse directly causing the death was the doing of Perez himself. Both recently made their initial appearances before a judge.

Due to the charges filed and statements made by both the mother and her boyfriend, the Iowa Department of Human Services chose to remove the other three children in the home and investigate to see if they were abused as well.
